The Tárcoles river is a very common place where people go to watch the crocodiles and to see the many birds that drink water from the canals of the river, that is in the front of Carara National Park. This park is a pathway for the birds where they stop to get food and water during their migration.
The Tárcoles river has one of the largest crocodile populations in the world, with 25 crocodiles per square kilometer. In addition, the river also houses more than 50 species of migratory birds, native and coastal, including a variety of herons, pink spatula, geese, and red and green macaws.
